Developers of a new NBA-ready arena on the Las Vegas Strip have chosen AECOM to handle the architectural and engineering services, according to a news release on Wednesday.
The project site, located between Fontainebleau Las Vegas and SAHARA Las Vegas, was once intended for the All-Net Arena, a project that was ultimately canceled due to investor commitment issues. The new development, led by LVXP, has a leadership team that includes CEO James R. Frasure Jr., previously with homebuilder D.R. Horton, construction leader Nick Tomasino, who was in charge of the Sphere project, and architect Paul Steelman.
LVXP announced their plans for this site a month ago, and the collaboration with AECOM marks the first major update since then.
“AECOM has set a new benchmark for arena architecture and development with their work on the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California,” said Tomasino. “Their inclusion in our team is a perfect fit. At LVXP, we share AECOM’s commitment to guest experience, excellence, and innovation. We are eager to bring these principles to our project in Las Vegas.”
Tomasino, the chief construction officer of LVXP, has also been involved in constructing other notable venues such as the Las Vegas Ballpark, Dolby Live, and The Park.
The planned development by LVXP spans 27 acres and is described as an “experiential mixed-use development” centered around the new arena. The site will also feature a luxury resort and casino designed by Paul Steelman. However, no visual renderings of the site have been released yet.
Matt Crane, the chief executive of AECOM’s U.S. West region, expressed excitement about the project, stating, “We are thrilled to work with LVXP as they aim to redefine what it means to be a landmark venue.”
AECOM highlighted its extensive experience with over 70 arenas in the U.S., including 20 professional sports and entertainment venues. The project will be led by Bill Hanway and Dan Meis, who are recognized experts in large-scale sports and entertainment design.
In addition to this development, another arena project near the M Resort in the south valley is also in the works, aiming to become the home of an NBA team. This project is spearheaded by Tim Leiweke, chairman and CEO of Oak View Group.
